In January, SUN USA organized a three day medical camp in Haiti. Seven medical professionals and a team of volunteers drove for five hours from the Dominican Republic to the towns of Plaisance, Martineau and La Trouble where the medical camps were organized. The medical team, which included a highly experienced cardiologist, attended to the patients in these impoverished towns for three days. There was a huge turnout as these areas are not served by any hospitals. According to estimates, around 1200 people came to the medical camp on the first day. Volunteers state that the camp ended up serving close to three thousand people in some capacity at the end of the three days. Free medicine was also distributed to those who needed it.
SUN also arranged for meals to be served to the patients who came for the free clinics.
The mayor of Plaisance apprised SUN of the fact that there was a great need for a medical facility in the area and agreed to the construction of a hospital with executives of SUN USA on the Board of Directors.
