“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now when?’

SUN Charity USA’s executive director Mr. Ibad Rehman visited Haiti to oversee various projects. The trip spanned over 5 days that included visits to the capital city of Port Au Prince, and Cap Haitian, the second largest airports of Haiti where over 340,000 people died in 2010 earthquake.

The Sun Haiti team officials welcomed Sun director and received him at the airport runway with orphan children singing welcoming songs. He was given a tour of the president house, cathedral and other places that were destroyed in earthquake.

He was briefed in detail on the status of educational and relief projects launched by Sun in Haiti.

Upon arrival in Cap Haitian he was greeted by local Sun officials and volunteers. Also present were the Member of Parliament, city mayor and police officials. An official protocol was given by the city.

Mr. Rehman presided over a high level meeting and exchange views on how to best cater to the needs of local population through close cooperation between the Sun and the local Government.

City Mayor and Sun USA Executive Director agreed to consider furthering Sun operations to include another school, an out-patient clinic at the Haiti Appeal Hospital and a children’s hospital in addition to an existing Sun school project and a Sun shelter home for the homeless youth.

He also visited Sun Academy School and monitored its progress and its expansion plans. A ceremony was held at the school where a large number of orphan students, city dignitaries, and local Sun officials and staff members were present. Speakers wholeheartedly thanked Sun for its humanitarian services in Haiti and urged Ibad Rehman to expand Sun operations in other parts of Haiti as well. Young children made an impressive musical presentation highlighting the plight of the poor and needy in Haiti and praising Sun’s charitable work.

Mr. Ibad Rehman spoke in detail about Sun’s commitment to Haitian people and gave assurance that many more projects will be launched by Sun with the help of international community. He also assured students, staff and city officials that Sun is here to stay and there is no looking back.
