First to Respond in The Philippines

Picture 1 of 6

Volunteers from SUN Charity were among the first to reach the disaster stricken city of Tacloban in the Philippines. Our forward teams made a thirty-six hour journey to reach the ravaged areas. As they travelled by plane and boat they were also witnesses to the destruction left in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

The team brought in much needed aid to Tacloban and other areas and is also helping in the clean-up efforts.

SUN is sending back-up teams to join the first responders.

SUN USA has teamed up with Join Hands International in the construction of an orphanage in Buikwe district in Uganda. Currently the orphanage is under construction and unable to house any children. In the interim, Join Hands International is sponsoring 70 children in various orphanages around the countryside. These children will be relocated as soon as the facility is completed.

Haiti is still reeling after the devastation of 2010. The most brutally affected demographic was that of women and children who lost the man of the house and thereby the only breadwinner of the family. These women and children were not only without a source of income but also without any training or education to earn a living for themselves and their families.

This need was recognized by SUN USA and it was decided that the best way to tackle this issue was to lay the foundation for a technical school.

SUN partnered with Association Femmes Soleil D’Haiti (AFASDA) and started The Sun Academy Haiti, an educational institution serving the poor. The school provides information technology expertise through low cost, open-merit based computer education.

SUN believes that the way to continued prosperity is with empowerment. With AFASDA we hope to bring empowerment through education.
